By accessing or using Crimethread ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform. Crimethread is a true crime case board builder and research platform. Users can create case boards, pin evidence, build timelines, and collaborate with other researchers. The Platform is intended for lawful research and educational purposes only. You agree not to: (a) use the Platform to harass, threaten, or defame any person; (b) upload content that violates any person's privacy or legal rights; (c) post personally identifiable information of suspects, witnesses, or victims without their consent or a legitimate public interest basis; (d) use the Platform to interfere with active law enforcement investigations; (e) upload illegal content or content that promotes violence. Users are solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of content they post. Crimethread does not verify the accuracy of user-submitted evidence. Photo uploads of suspects and witnesses are restricted to protect against defamation. All evidence should be sourced from public records, news articles, or official databases. Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. We collect only the information necessary to provide the service. We do not sell your personal data. Content you create on Crimethread remains yours. By posting content publicly, you grant Crimethread a non-exclusive license to display it on the Platform. Crimethread's name, logo, and design are the property of Crimethread. Pro features are available via monthly or annual subscription. Payments are processed by Stripe. You may cancel at any time. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Crimethread is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not responsible for actions taken based on information found on the Platform. We are not a law enforcement agency and do not provide legal advice. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Users may delete their account at any time. We collect: (a) account information — email address, display name, username, and optional profile details you provide; (b) case board content — evidence cards, timelines, and notes you create; (c) usage data — pages visited, features used, and general analytics; (d) device information — browser type and screen size for responsive design. We use your information to: provide and improve the Platform; enable social features like friend requests and messaging; process Pro subscription payments via Stripe; send important account notifications; and detect and prevent abuse. We do NOT: sell your personal data to third parties; share your private case boards with anyone; use your data for targeted advertising; or track your activity outside of Crimethread. Pro users see no ads. Your data is stored securely on Supabase (hosted on AWS). Authentication is handled via industry-standard practices. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Payment information is processed by Stripe and never touches our servers. When you share a case board or accept a friend request, the relevant content becomes visible to those users. Private boards are only visible to you and invited collaborators. Public boards may be visible to other Platform users. We use local storage to save your session, case file collections, and board layouts. We do not use third-party tracking cookies. You can: access all your data through your profile and case boards; edit or delete your profile information at any time; delete your account and all associated data; export your case board data; and opt out of any future email notifications. Crimethread is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. We may update this policy from time to time.
